Public Institution for the Development of the Međimurje County (REDEA)

Public Institution for the Development of the Međimurje County (PI REDEA) serves as the regional development agency and regional coordinator for Međimurje County. The main goal of PI REDEA is to promote the regional development of Međimurje County through strategic planning, which is essential for focused development. PI REDEA’s key activities include strategic planning at the county and local levels, initiation and implementation of strategic projects, assistance in identifying, developing, and implementing projects co-financed by national and EU funds, and organizing and implementing training for the public and private sectors.

PI REDEA has extensive experience in implementing various transnational projects, including those under the Interreg Central Europe, Danube, Europe, and Adrion programs, along with other significant regional and national strategic projects. Their expertise in project planning and implementation spans the fields of nature preservation and sustainable tourism. Notable projects include ADRIONET, which established a transnational network of Authentic Villages for tourism promotion and conservation of natural and cultural resources, CYCLESEEING ATTRACTOUR (CSA), which revitalized cultural heritage into tourism attractions, and ECOBRIDGE, aimed at improving the ecological status of natural habitats in the bordering region of Međimurje and Zala counties. Other projects include BETWEEN TWO RIVERS, enhancing visitor infrastructure in Međimurje County, and the MUSEUM OF INTANGIBLE HERITAGE, focusing on the sustainable promotion of cultural and natural attractions through ICT solutions.

In the Mystical Danube Project, PI REDEA plays a crucial role as a partner, leveraging their strong capacity in strategic planning and regional development. Their relevant experience includes developing strategic documents at the local and regional levels, such as the Regional Development Plan for Međimurje County and sectoral strategies for municipalities and the county. Given that a large area of Međimurje is under Natura 2000 protection and part of the Mura-Drava Regional Park, PI REDEA is preparing and adopting protected area management plans to ensure sustainable management of these areas.

For pilot actions, PI REDEA will identify and coordinate pilot sites, implementing actions based on the legend of Pozoj to develop the potential of intangible cultural heritage and create a new tourism route centered around this legend. This will offer visitors an authentic experience of the rich cultural heritage associated with Pozoj.
