CEEweb for Biodiversity is a leading network organization committed to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development across Central and Eastern Europe. Founded in 1994, originally as the Central and Eastern European Working Group for the Enhancement of Biodiversity, CEEweb has a long-standing focus on advocating for effective environmental policies and promoting sustainable practices.
The organization's mission is to safeguard biodiversity through sustainable development. This mission is achieved through a multifaceted approach, including advocacy, networking, project implementation, and capacity building. CEEweb's work involves influencing policy, engaging with decision-makers, and facilitating collaboration among NGOs, public authorities, and other stakeholders.
CEEweb is experienced in managing transnational projects and has been involved in various initiatives related to sustainable tourism, rural development, climate action, and green infrastructure. Notable projects include promoting slow, green tourism through the INSiGHTS project, and enhancing visitor monitoring in protected areas via the VIMOMA project. The organization also works on biodiversity conservation projects like Building the European Peatlands Initiative and Agromix, and addresses green infrastructure challenges through projects such as TRANSGREEN and ConnectGREEN.
With a network of 33 member organizations from 15 countries, CEEweb provides valuable expertise and coordination in biodiversity conservation efforts. The organization conducts capacity-building activities, public awareness campaigns, and educational initiatives to promote environmental sustainability and biodiversity protection.
The organization will take a leading role in the Hungarian pilot action, collaborating with local stakeholders to design and implement thematic routes, test applications, and define local cultural and natural values to develop a new tourism model.
